A Centenary Celebration

100 years of Broadway Allotments

Thank you to everyone who attended our smashing centenary bash on Broadway back in July 2016! Our first big event as Didcot Allotment Society, we couldn't let this milestone pass us by without opening up the gates and showing off our assets! DAS members and fellow allotment holders cooked up a storm and provided a cake stall that Mary Berry would have been proud of - using home grown ingredients of course! There was a table for children’s activities, including fairy gardens, which was a hit with the youngest (and older!) generation of visitors. For curious members of the public we also provided tours of the allotments, so we could showcase our allotments and daily life on the plot. Allotment holders also provided an abundance of plants to sell and raise funds.

The local Scout group provided a BBQ which was very welcome, and enjoyed by lots of party goers. Sustainable Didcot also had a stall to showcase their brilliant efforts so far in creating a community space at the new road allotment site, and other exciting projects in the town.

All in all, we had a fantastic day which was enjoyed by many. Our celebration cake featured a very special decoration kindly provided by local artist Linda Benton, who’s greetings cards of Didcot and the Broadway Allotment proved to be a big hit! We were joined for the cake cutting by the Mayor and his son, and two very special allotment holders celebrating 50 years on Broadway!
